Antler Circle and Squirrel Lake…
…on the way north.
…on the way north.
…a day in mid-August? (How can it be mid-August anyway?)
Yard back in shape; lots of mulberry and some buckthorn removed.
And, the little downtown lake is almost back to being a lake after two year drawdown and some excavation.
I think the straw I used as mulch was full of weed seed and as a result crab grass (or possibly quack grass) formed a solid mat where beets were supposed to be.

Ended up pulling the small number of beets that survived and then mowing the mess.
For dinner: home grown tomatoes, local corn, local melon, home grown blueberries, and a little fried chicken. (The garden is a mess but will soon be cleaned up.)
…a stopover at Squirrel Lake.
Lots of odd jobs, but only Lollipop out sailing.
Cleanup and put away after early morning (barely light) departure. Slowly returning to old timer cottager mid-August life.
Biscuits and gravy, the sitting tree, path making, huge arachnids, and ribs for dinner.
And a stop at Gooseberry.
Zoom in. This big spider discovered as a shoreline trail was being built, has at least 6?eyes.
Archery, Amphibians, Aqua Sports.
…market, tubing, and wind riding.
…catching snakes and frogs, tubing, swimming, and similar things.
Water in the swales for the first time, but who cares? Lots of other activities.
But also game day, frog day, crayfish day, papaw airplane dogfight day, and, unbelievably, body surfing day.
…water sports, frog catching, rock stacking, and sundry other things.
It was a long and frustrating drive, but here at last.
…by motorboat, with a friend. Mimi and I, meanwhile, went for a lazy Windrider sail in the bay. (photos by Abby)
Go to Gore Bay. Juicy morning thunderstorm followed by slow clearing. To GoreB for a little exploration and lunch at Purvis Fish and Chips.
Recently off the fish tug.
And while exploring, one of the oddest boats I’ve ever come across.
A gaff rig, sprit sail yawl with leeboards, an open bow, and park benches in the cockpit.
Water park, puppet stage, sets and props and script.
Some here, some there. Ab and kid camped out on the lower deck last night. And they hiked today. Min-afternoon downpour, so a little rain time. No photos, though Abby has some great one on Instagram.
However, here’s a shot of a spectacular little shoreline volunteer garden. Cardinal flower, goldenrod, mullein, vervain? And what else?
Lively sail from marina to cottage, afternoon at anchor, lively sail back.
Ice cream day 6.
